Revisiting MPC-gate

Benn Jordan is one of our favourite electronic musicians (you may know him as The Flashbulb) and is certainly no stranger to controversy – not anymore at least! For those not in the loop, so to speak, a couple of weeks ago, he released a video in which he gave a less than favourable review of the Akai MPC Key 61, labelling it unusable – albeit, as he stated, for his very specific use case. The next few days proved to be very interesting from the sidelines…

To cut a long story short, the whole thing got massively out of hand. A flame war started with people jumping in on both sides of the argument, posting videos and articles and accusing Benn of all sorts of terrible things!

Now it’s all died down a little, and he’s had the chance to speak with Akai and test a replacement unit, he’s posted a new video which both summarises and addresses the last couple of weeks and shows off the MPC Key 61 in the most practical and useful way possible – making some music!

It’s worth watching for the first 90 seconds alone, which might just be the most epic intro to a synthesiser YouTube video ever!
