Modal Electronics Release v2 Update For Cobalt8

Following on from the massive Argon8 update earlier this month, UK-based synthesiser manufacturers Modal Electronics have announced the latest firmware upgrade for their Cobalt8 synth.

Like the Argon8 update, the Cobalt8 v2 firmware update adds a new Vintage parameter which aims to emulate the technical imperfections of vintage synths to alter the organic fabric of the wavetable textures and an Oscillator Free Run feature, which combine to ensure that every key press is slightly different than the one before. In addition to this, the update adds 27 new filter types for creative sound design, including 2-Pole State Variable Filters, various Lowpass, Bandpass and Highpass Ladder Filters with drive, combinations of traditional filter types with Notch characteristics, and many more.

The v2 update upgrades the built-in reverb and adds a new Phaser v2, Compressor, Three-Band EQ, Unisoniser, Utility and additional Drive effects. Finally, the programmable Arpeggiator receives new Arp Directions to “inspire musicians and producers”. Again, similarly to the Argon8 v3update, the Cobalt8 Firmware v2 also improves the capabilities of the OLED display, the Audio In quality and the gain staging of the audio output.

Installation instructions are available on the Modal Electronics support site here.
