Moog for Mac

Moog has announced a significant update to its Minimoog Model D Synthesizer app, making it available as a standalone app and VST3 and AU plugin, albeit only for Mac users. The app, which had previously only been available for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, is a faithful emulation of the world’s first portable synth, the Minimoog Model D synth, which became an instant classic when it was first introduced in 1970.

With vintage Minimoog Model D’s selling for $10k+, the $24.99 App Store price seems quite reasonable! Although you may wish to consider the Moog Vintage Synthesizer Bundle, which bundles the Minimoog Model D Synthesizer app with the Model 15 Modular Synthesizer app for $39.99.

The “software transmutation” of the synth classic even has some advantages over its wooden-cased ancestor. The app can save patches, as you would expect, and comes with over 150 built-in presets to allow you to get that classic Model D sound in a hurry. The app is also 4-note polyphonic and has an arpeggiator, a real-time looping recorder, a stereo ping pong delay, and an effect module called The Bender – a wide-range stereo time modulation module – built in.
