Boutique Field Recorder: Teenage Engineering TP-7

Following on from last months release of their CM-15 condenser microphone, Teenage Engineering has taken the opportunity of their visit to Superbooth 2023 to announce the latest in their “field” range, the TP-7 Field Recorder.

The TP-7 is a dedicated recording device designed to integrate perfectly with the rest of their instruments and recording equipment. As you would expect from Teenage Engineering, the TP-7 looks beautiful, with a motorised ‘tape reel’ at the centre, which for many will be reminiscent of the control wheel of the original Apple iPods. If previous TE products are anything to go by, we can expect the build quality to be first-class.

Features include a 7-hour rechargeable battery and 128 GB internal storage. There is a built-in microphone, but a mini-XLR input with phantom power is also included for those wishing to connect other mics. Three stereo, two-way 3.5mm jacks allow for the connection of microphones, headphones, monitors or other external audio devices.

The Teenage Engineering Field Range

The following video from the Andertons Synths, Keys and Tech YouTube channel demonstrates the major features and shows some of the connectivity options and even a nifty carry case for all the devices in the range. There is also an interesting discussion towards the end of the video about the price of this and the rest of the range, which at £1,299 for the TP-7, we can most kindly describe as “premium”!

For more info, see the TP-7 product page on the Teenage Engineering website.
